Neil Tan (Neil Wen May Tan) is an influential digital transformation executive, corporate strategist, and ecosystem builder prominent within Asia’s financial technology and artificial intelligence landscapes. He currently serves as the Managing Partner at Tsunami Advisors, an advisory firm dedicated to guiding companies through AI and Web3 commercialization, transformation, and capital structure deployment. Known for his data-driven approach to market entry, Tan has carved out a professional niche by connecting complex technological breakthroughs with enterprise operational ecosystems across the Greater China region.
Tan built his extensive operational foundation over more than 20 years of high-level experience spanning corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and business development. He initially sharpened his business acumen in the industrial sector at major conglomerates Siemens and Philips Electronics, before transitioning into elite management consulting with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). He later moved into corporate banking, directing strategic initiatives and corporate pipelines at Deutsche Bank and HSBC.
His strategic focus shifted directly into the digital frontier during his pivotal tenure as the Head of Business Development (Asia Pacific) within the Digital Partnerships & Innovation Team at HSBC. In this role, Tan orchestrated initiatives centered around Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) and Embedded Finance, navigating complex multi-party data landscapes across non-banking financial institutions. The deep technical exposure he gained managing digital lending, payments, and wealth platforms inspired his subsequent foray into deep-tech venture building.
Driven by an entrepreneurial impulse, Tan stepped into the decentralized tech ecosystem as the CEO of Neptune Digital, an award-winning blockchain startup incubated under Hong Kong's Cyberport Incubation Program. Capitalizing on this momentum, he went on to found Tsunami Advisors and Tsunami Labs, an AI accelerator and venture studio that builds, tests, and deploys custom autonomous AI applications, AI workflows, and workflow automation agents for corporate entities. His commercial operations heavily emphasize bridging the gap between raw laboratory innovation and scalable corporate adoption.
Beyond his private corporate holdings, Tan plays an integral role in shaping the regulatory and advocacy framework of Hong Kong’s digital economy. He is the Founder and Chairman of the Artificial Intelligence Association of Hong Kong (AIHK), a past Chairman of the FinTech Association of Hong Kong (FTAHK), and an appointed member of the HKSAR Government Task Force on Promoting Web3 Development. Additionally, he helps educate the next generation of deep-tech leaders as an Adjunct Professor of Venture & Entrepreneurship at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) Business School.
